Music in Action
I look forward to having a portion of the student body here at Tharp in the Music in Action classroom every day for one quarter sometime this year. Check around on connected webpages to find out more information about the class, the students, and myself. If any questions, feel free to click at the bottom to email me or call the school at 921-6900. I look forward to making music together!
Music in Action is provided to every student in the Arrow 4th/5th Grade Program to acquaint them with the diversity of our musical heritage along with celebrating both similarities and differences with those around us. The primary result of general music is heightened musical interest so that the students are given the opportunity to develop their aesthetic potential to the highest possible level through expressive experience with music.
THE TYPES OF ACTIVITIES THAT EACH STUDENT WILL PARTICIPATE IN:
1. Understanding many types of music through guided listening, singing, playing, instruments and moving to music.
2. Understanding and using music notation.
3. Understanding musical structures and forms by analyzing musical examples.
4. Creating music by improvising, composing and arranging music for voices and instruments through even the use of modern tools and technology.
Through Music in Action, I will try to develop musical skills and understanding, not readily acquired through ordinary school or social experiences. These skills and understandings have broad applications to the enrichment of living. My mission is to empower all students to become multi-faceted adventurers who dream of crossing borders previously set by parents, peers, administration, staff, and even me. These borders may be set by many factors such as: 1) labels due to deficient achievement, 2) avoidance due to previous failure or lack of exposure, 3) curriculum set by academic content standards, 4) bias defined by socioeconomic levels, 5) limited time on task due to classroom scheduling or materials, 6) and status in social hierarchy. Keep Singing, Movin' and Dancin' to the Music!
